POP UP POP ART POP IN POP EYE
We are really excited to be holding an exhibition of Art and objects from the John Perry collection, opening this Saturday 16 January. John Perry is well known in Helensville for his eclectic range of antiques and memorabilia jam packed into the old Regent Theatre building, known as Global Village Antiques in Helensville.
John is passionate about collecting and documenting social history, folk art, International art and all things New Zealand.
John says "This exhibition endeavours to trace my involvement with a worldwide movement in art that had a parallel birth in England and America in the early 1960’s, that of POP ART. At that time I was at Elam Art School studying Design for Printed Reproduction, Painting, Sculpture and Art History. It just so happened that this new international movement was branded Pop Art, which is short for Popular Art and it exercised a profound influence on me, not only as an artist but also as an educator, curator and collector."
Come into the Art Centre over the next 2 weeks to view this outstanding exhibition.
On until Sat 30 January.Our hours to POP IN are Tuesday - Friday 10.00- 16.30, Saturday 10.00 - 15.00
